That's even worse than simply making him lighter than the rest of the tribe. He's the classic white guy adopted by a group or clan that becomes their savior (Last Samurai, Dances With Wolves, Pathfinger). Gah.

especially since this was around the time Bravestarr had a Native American hero in a lead role.

Yep, and Blackstar (another Filmation series that preceeded Masters of the Universe) featured the lead character John Blackstar, whose ethnicity is never specified in the series, but is believed to be Native American as well. Gotta give it up to Lou Scheimer and Filmation.

BTW, Noel, Blackstar only had 13 episodes...Tony Williamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03127116586453811407noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4088555461299761566.post-9605725366426985062015-09-24T15:19:26.424-07:002015-09-24T15:19:26.424-07:00Yes! I was hoping you guys would cover it... Prett...Yes! I was hoping you guys would cover it... Pretty much since I discovered this obscurity on Youtube.

Since this is one of the rare cases where I've seen most of the episodes of what you're covering, I have to say I agree with Noel about most of the show... except the theme song. Tony is right - it is pretty catchy, in a cheesy 80s way.

Which would be interesting had Vytor actually been a part of the Terron tribe and not just adopted by them while really being the son of a visibly white king. Because heaven forbid just some awesome kid from a tribe can ever be the one who finds the great weapon and becomes the great hero. No, Bastian always has to swoop in and take the story from Atreyu, and... what were we talking about again?

Leaving Neverending Story aside... I have to agree about Vytor. There is really no reason why he couldn't be a tribes kid, especially since this was around the time Bravestarr had a Native American hero in a lead role.Strannikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09561207510297423737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4088555461299761566.post-35389116590814859752015-09-24T12:47:04.071-07:002015-09-24T12:47:04.071-07:00I mentioned that the sky dwelling people are calle...I mentioned that the sky dwelling people are called Aerions (say it aloud), and they seemingly represent a technologically advanced society. Naturally, Skyla (their Princess, I believe) is whiter than Pat Boone.

.... Aerions. Aer-i-ons. Aer. EE. Ahhhhhhhhh, I get it. Wowwwwww. Did not catch that.

Meanwhile, the Terrons are "native" and vaguely ethnic, though Vytor is a few shades lighter than the others and sounds like he's from Orange County, which made me laugh a bit. I'm sure the whole Aerion thing was just an exceptionally awkward coincidence, but I do feel it was an interesting choice to make the hero not obviously Caucasian, and that it's Skyla who is presented as being ignorant, though not maliciously so.

Which would be interesting had Vytor actually been a part of the Terron tribe and not just adopted by them while really being the son of a visibly white king.
